Smashbox's Heartbreaker Precision Liquid Eyeliner Pen

As previously stated, I'm definitely a liquid liner kind of girl. I've tried tons of different liquid liners, but always came back to Maybelline's Ultra liner. But after using Smashbox's Heartbreaker Precision Liquid Eyeliner Pen, I think I've found my new favorite. You get ultra precision, it's in a cute sleek little package, and it lasts FOREVER (and no smudging!). It's currently not available anymore, but I'm praying they put it back on the site and make it a permanent item.

Smashbox's Hyperlash Mascara

This mascara is wonderful. The dual applicator is awesome, with one side to lift and add volume, and another side to lengthen and define. The formula doesn't irritate my eyes at all, and it has naturally derived peptides and antioxidants help protect and repair lashes. Definitely my new favorite mascara!

Holy grail of Mascara Combinations

Recently, I purchased L'oreal's Telescopic Explosion mascara.

I'm a big fan of mixing mascaras to create the desired effect I want, since most of the time using just 1 mascara isn't enough. I used L'Oreal's Telescopic Explosion mascara as the base coat. Since the brush is actually a little ball, you're really able to get every lash. And no clumping! Insane!

For the 2nd coat, I used Lancome's Definicils mascara.

This is probably one of my favorite mascaras. The color is JET BLACK. The brush is great and really thickens your lashes up.

With these two mascaras paired together, my lashes looked AMAZING. Each lash was coated, no clumps, jet black and looked fake.

If any of you try this mascara combination, let me know! I'd love to hear if it worked for you as well as it worked for me :)

Had a really great time in Atlanta this week. We shot Sara Canning & Ian Somerhalder from The Vampire Diaries for a few magazines, and I'm really excited to see them in print! Both Sara and Ian were just so sweet and funny, and amazing to work with. Sara got to wear these TO DIE FOR Roberto Cavalli pants...Looked similar to gold lamé fabric, but thicker and woven. They were AMAZING. Kind of circus-y ringleader looking. I need them. I can't wait to show you guys when it comes out!

And thanks to my assistant Ashley for being the best ;)

UNII Cosmetics Palette

Lately, I've been thinking about consolidating my make up kit so I have everything I want but less to carry around... But, let me tell you, it's HARD. I haven't had any luck finding cute empty magnetic palettes to purchase. I COULD try my hand at making my own palettes out of old DVD cases, but D.I.Y crafts ain't my cup of tea (Who's not good with a glue gun? THIS GIRL).

But then this morning I found these!

The UNII Palette retails for $29 (free shipping too!), and comes in Pomegranate, Twilight, Lemongrass, Eggplant and Snow. Featuring a Magnetized Palette (so makeup stays put), Adhesive magnetic sheet with writable labels (so you can label each product), and has a large full sized mirror. Because it's magnetized, you can switch out makeup in the palette whenever you want, and can even create day to nighttime palettes within a few seconds. The palette is about the size of 2 MAC quads (which only hold 8 eyeshadows, where as the UNII palette holds 14).

MAC Give Me Liberty Of London first looks

Set to hit shelves March 11th...

Let me just say, I LOVE THIS PACKAGING! I will admit that sometimes I can't help but buy an item of makeup if it comes in a adorable little container (especially when it's limited edition!). MAC has put out some really cute packaged collections in the past (FAFI collection, Dame Edna collection), but this MIGHT be my favorite packaging yet.

The "Give Me Liberty Of London" Collection will consist of 2 beauty powders, 5 eye shadows, 4 lipsticks, 4 lip glasses, 2 blushes, 2 nail lacquers, 2 make up bags (small and medium), and 1 limited edition scarf.

I can't wait for March! Does anyone else love this packaging?

How to properly clean your makeup brushes

Makeup brushes collect a lot of dirt, oil and bacteria every day, so it's necessary to clean your make up brushes often. By cleaning your brushes, you're helping to keep not only your brushes clean, but your face clean as well. Dirty brushes can lead to breakouts and other imperfections of the skin, so make sure you take care of your brushes!

You can buy a makeup brush cleanser from your favorite cosmetics line, But, they can be a little pricey considering their size/daily use.
Smashbox's Brush Cleaner runs for $15.

M.A.C's Brush Cleanser runs for $11.

Personally, I bring Smashbox's Brush Cleaner with me on shoots to clean my brushes while shooting since it has a great spray function. But, once a week I like to do an intense cleaning of my brushes to REALLY make sure all makeup, dirt, and bacteria has been removed.

The best way to do this (and cheap too!) is to mix equal parts anti-bacterial dishwashing soap and olive oil.

Mix both on a plate and swirl the brushes around in the mixture. (I like to use Dawn's Hand Renewal with Olay Beauty since it's softer on the brushes, but still has great fighting power to give the brushes a deep clean and suck out all the bad stuff). The Olive Oil can be any kind you have in the kitchen, and re-conditions the brush fibers that have been dried out from the soap.

After swirling the brushes in the mixture, rub the brush around in your palm and then rinse in warm water. (Make sure it's warm water, as rinsing in hot water can actually damage your brushes).
After rinsing them, pat them dry with a paper towel, and then store them UPSIDE DOWN in a cup (handles sticking out of the cup).

If you store them with the brush head up, you're allowing dirt to fall on the head of the brush, and letting excess water in the fibers drain down into the brush handle which can actually loosen the glue that keeps all the fibers together. Once the glue is loosened, brush hairs will begin to fall out and your brush is ruined :(

So make sure you take care of your brushes!

I guess I've been on an eyeliner kick lately. It is, by far, my favorite thing to wear daily. My ultimate favorite (and cheap!!!) eyeliner that I personally use on myself is Maybelline's Ultra Liner Waterproof Liquid Liner.

I'm always up to try new brands of liquid eyeliner, but I always come back to this one. Once applied, this stuff DOES NOT BUDGE. Lately, I've been ditching the brush that it comes with, and using Smashbox's Arced Liner Brush #21 to really get that precise, dramatic cat eye effect.

It retails for around $7.00, and you can get it at any drug store near you.

Does anyone else love liquid eyeliner as much as I do? I'm curious to see if I have an obsession ;)

Smashbox Emulsion Lip Exfoliant

I've been really excited to try this product out, especially since it's winter and my lips are suffering hardcore.

The first thing I noticed about the product was that it smelled GREAT. The cooling sensation was really enjoyable, unlike other lip products I've tried that have sported the "cooling" factor. Once applied, I rubbed the product into my lips to really get the sugar granules and poppy seeds exfoliating. After just a few seconds my lips looked and felt amazing!

It's really important to take care of your skin and lips, especially during the winter months. Flaky lips are a no-no, especially if you're going to wear lipstick. I definitely recommend this product, and used once or twice a week you'll keep your lips looking healthy and shiny. I LOVE credit gratis programs. I'm sure everyone that is a part of one does. But, I really can't help but get excited when I see a package at my door. I turn into a 5 year old girl and rip apart the box and admire all my new makeup and spend hours playing with the new stuff. I'm getting excited just thinking about new makeup! AHH.

Bad Romance

I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but I will be damned if her videos aren't inspiring. The video for "Bad Romance" is, by far, my favorite out of the ones that I've seen. The minute I saw Alexander McQueen's ridiculous lobster-claw shaped "Armadillo" shoes a few months ago (Spring 2010), I KNEW Lady Gaga would be the one wearing them. In the midst of all these insane scenes in the video, small shots of her with only mascara on pop up, and those scenes were what really made me love the video. She looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL with just mascara on, and for me that's what really stood out during the chaos of the video. I'm sure you've all seen "Bad Romance" by now, and I really think it's beautiful and scary and just jaw dropping to watch. I've probably watched it 10+ times now and still haven't gotten sick of it. She is seriously inspirational from a fashion standpoint, and I'd love to work with her someday.

"It was just starting to get a little chilly around the time when we shot this. But the weather was kind with us on the day itself -- kind of a rare thing when I shoot overseas, something I was infinitely grateful for.

The location was empty save for a cellist playing when we arrived. I had Lauren leaning against some pillars at first, then a few different poses and I was more or less ready to move on. We were pressing for time and I was trying to finish within a few frames so we could change into to the next dress before the light went out for the day.

However the music kept playing, and playing, and it was so magnificent and poetic as the melodies echoed throughout the halls I felt an urge and need to capture the beautiful moment in which we were submersed in. I told Lauren to hold up her dress, to twirl and walk and move towards the light. She did, and everything came to live in the viewfinder. I had my shot.

It's one of those 'simple' photographs, where everything else is stripped away and the image is about the essence of a certain moment. I had my assistants moved away with the reflectors to give her full space for movements and photographed with whatever natural light there was left before the sun went down. In those moments it was just about the harmony between the two of us, and it was beautiful."

Hi! I'm in florida! It's so beautiful out...much different from the 30-40 degree weather in NY.

Recently, I purchased Smashbox's "Wish for the Perfect Palette".

I wasn't really sure how I'd like it since I hadn't seen it in person...But, I was pleasantly surprised when I received it in the mail. It retails for $59, and is around 7x7". It has 64 Eye Shadows, 8 Cream Eye Liners, 6 Brow Tech Powders, 1 Brow Wax, 8 Lip Glosses, 2 Blushes, 1 Complexion Brightener, 1 Bronzer, 1 Highlighter, and 4 Mini Brushes (Shadow, Liner, Brow & Lip). It'd be a GREAT gift for Christmas or Hanukkah. I could easily bring it to a photoshoot and eliminate 75% of my kit since this carries almost everything I need. The eyeshadows have great pigmentation, and really show up against different skin tones. All in all, I'd give it an A. Definitely pick it up for the holidays!!

1 year Birthday!

I've had my makeup blog for a little over a year now, and I'm very proud of it. I think I've grown a lot in the past year, and seeing all the things I've been privileged to do since last November really makes me happy. Got published in Power for the first time in Febuary, and have had 3 Covers and a few more snippets since then. Got to spend some time in L.A and meet and work with some great people. Was lucky enough to get work published in GEEK Magazine, Avenue Edmonton, People en Espanol, Prestige Magazine, Disfunkshion Magazine, and 20/20 Magazine. I worked with a great Men's designer named Todd Shelton, and got to do some awesome photoshoots showcasing his clothing line "Shelton Clothing". I got to work with my boyfriend on a shoot and have our work published in Coastal Carolina Home & Lifestyles Magazine.

Here's to the next year!
And coinciding with my blog's birthday is my own birthday this Thursday the 12th)! :)

Had an amazing shoot today with Singapore photographer Zhang Jingna. We had a trailer all day, and shot in some really great places in the city (brooklyn park, meatpacking district, flat iron, central park, etc). The model was Lauren, who was fabulous, and the Hair Stylist Crews was also phenomenal. Furquan, the stylist, was also from Singapore, and was super awesome and terrific. We shoot again tomorrow and I'm really excited. Expect some AMAZING pictures soon. and a video!

Had a great shoot today with model Hilary Rowland, head of the charity group Project Migration. We shot some of her t-shirts with world famous photographer Daniel Garriga, that will be used in ads and articles about the charity. M.A.C Style Black Collection

In the M.A.C Style Black collection, all the products have hues of black in them, creating alluring looks for the fall. I'm not really sure how I feel about the collection, although I really love the black nail polishes (Seriously Hip Black with gold particle pearl, and Baby Goth Girl Black with pink and purple pearl) and the Glimmer glass for lips (same as nail polishes).

Illamasqua is a fairly new UK makeup brand (they launched in nov '08) that is truly amazing. They just started selling their top 200 items in Sephora in the US, so if they're at your local store, definitely check out their products. The creator of the line, Alex Box, is one of my idols, and I really love how dramatic the products she's created are. the Fred Armisen shoot on thursday was awesome. he was so nice and funny, and was a total blast to work with. he'll be featured in the october issue of GEEK magazine, so definitely pick that up when you see it!

and yesterday, we shot Tricia Helfer for Avenue Edmonton and GEEK magazine. the few pictures i saw looked really great. i'm not sure when the Avenue Edmonton issue will be coming out, but i do know she will be featured on the january issue of GEEK magazine (on stands in december). here's a quick shot i took with my phone while we were shooting...

alright all you manly men out there, unless you're pete wentz, you probably don't wear makeup. even so, your skin should still matter to you. moisturizing should be a daily event in your regimen, and i'm going to share some great moisturizers and tips/tricks so you can all look your best. c'mon, you know you want to look good for the ladies&guys out there.

moisturizers:
John Varvatos Hydrating Facial Moisturizer is a really, really great product.

a little pricey ($65) but a little goes a long way, and it'll do wonders to your skin. it's fast absorbing, so no need to wait around while it soaks in, you can put it on and head right out the door. it's also got chamomile and raspberry extracts which help soothe skin irritation.

Clinque M Protect SPF 21

Clinque's moisturizer is also really great, plus it has some spf thrown in there to help you avoid skin damage. the cheapest of the three, this one is priced at $22.

Zirh's protect moisturizer

this daily moisturizer really helps improve skin texture and bring elasticity back to the skin, and also helps to prevent sun damage. Zirh's protect moisturizer retails for $32.50.

concealers:
NOWWW...i am also a big fan of concealer for men. you don't need to use a lot, and i really only recommend using it under the eyes. it'll totally brighten up your face... you won't look so tired, and it'll also give you a youthful appearance.

Jean Paul Gaultier Concealer

jeal paul gaultier's concealer is one of my favorites. it's only slightly tinted, fragrance free, and relatively inexpensive ($20).

John Varvatos Concealer for Men

this concealer by john varvatos comes in a cream stick form and is really easy to use. it's can help reduce fine lines and it's easy to blend into the skin. retails for $21, which is pretty good.

so men, take care of your skin! you'll thank yourself in 20+ years.

the anthony bourdain shoot on tuesday went great. we shot it at les halles on park ave. the food looked yummy. i'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures, and it will be featured in an upcoming issue of power soon. he seemed super down to earth, and i'm a HUGE fan of his show "No Reservations".

had a great shoot with john burnett for power yesterday. he was attacked by pirates while sailing alone and luckily he survived, and was inspired to write a book based on his experience called "Dangerous Waters - modern piracy and terror on the high seas". i'll let you all know what issue it will be featured in. you can buy the book here.

i'll also have some work coming up on mtv in august, in a true life episode. i won't be IN the episode, but you'll see 3 really awesome girls all made up by me. and my name in the credits! :) i'll let you know when that airs also!

looking for an easy makeup remover?

sometimes i get lazy at night and don't want to wash my face. being fully aware that sleeping in makeup is the worst thing you can do to your skin, i started keeping some makeup remover towelettes around. after trying different brands and not being as satisfied as i wanted to be, i tried Ponds clean sweep, and FELL IN LOVE.

they are super saturated with the makeup remover, unlike most brands i tried that felt too dry. they are great at getting off waterproof makeup, and don't irritate the eyes. they smell pretty good too and are great to have on hand at shoots so the models can remove their makeup afterward.

so if you're looking for a lazy day makeup remover, i definitely suggest picking up Ponds clean sweep in the original clean version. they retail for about $5 at your local drugstore, and last a pretty decent amount of time.

Nars - makeup your mind : BOOK REVIEW

if you're looking for a great makeup book, i definitely suggest picking up "Nars - makeup your mind".

not only is nars one of my faaaaaaavorite brands of makeup, but the book is (in my opinion) the best makeup book out there. most makeup books i own are just tips and tricks of the trade, but not in depth pictures and ideas. the nars book focuses more on pictures and telling you what to use and how to use it. it shows before and after pictures of the models, which i think is really cool. the pictures are broken up into segments focusing on lips, eyes, etc. there are a ton of different models (even guys!), and it really can inspire you if you're just looking for a new look.

according to View on Fashion Mag, this summers beauty trends will be "a tribute to the incredibly colourful imagination of Africa. The rich colour palette is enhanced by the fantastic light and cultural essence of African lands."

palettes by Yves Saint Laurent. i lovelovelove the first palette. the purple and gold colors look AMAZING.

personally, i'm really excited to use and experiment with these colors. as long as women make sure not to cross the line and end up with something tacky, i think it will be fun to see their take on this trend this summer.

i also really want to try these products from Make Up For Ever:

i'm interested to see how well they hold up to the camera and if they do make any real difference. if they do, i'd be one happy customer! i know it all depends on the blending and application of the products, but some powders really just aren't that great. apparently, the Hi-Def powder is actually micro beads of silicone, and once they come in contact with damp or moisturized skin, turn from white to clear...thus, eliminating the need to drag around different colored powders. so excited!

and speaking of M.A.C, i'm a little late with the whole "hello kitty" collection, but, the video for it was pretty fantastic. very creepy alice in wonderland in my opinion.
